Women Who Organized Rescue Attempts

Women were members of the various public committees which attempted to rescue Jews from Europe. One of these Jewish leaders was Gisi Fleischman (1897-1944), a Zionist activist in Slovakia and one of the founders of the Working Group whose attempts to save Slovakian Jewry from destruction are all but forgotten. (See "Women of Valour: Biographical Sketches".) Recha Sternbuch of of Switzerland was another of the women who aided rescue attempts, she on behalf of Orthodox Jews.
